Women

My phone beeped. I reached across and grabbed it from the shelf. There was one new message, from Delilah.

Hi Nina,

Hope you’re going really well. I’m having a great time! It’s lovely to see everybody especially with the wedding coming up. Speaking of, you could please speak to Natalie about how I’m going to get the dress for the day? I’m happy to collect it from her place as soon as we get back. Thanks.

Cheers,

Delilah

I flicked my eyes over to Natalie, cooking omelettes for breakfast.

“Delilah would like to know how you’d like her to collect her wedding dress,” I mentioned.

“Well, it’s all ready to go, so she can come over anytime.”

I responded to her text accordingly. Eventually, I returned home from the Devereux house. I noticed an unfamiliar car in the street outside our place. While I realised quickly the neighbours must have had a guest over, it still sent a shiver of hope over me. I busied myself for the afternoon. Soon enough, it turned out that it was time for the hens party – karaoke. We cheered as Jumilah rose to her feet and strutted towards the microphone, wearing tight, black leather pants. She took the microphone from its stand, then cleared her throat as the opening bars of the song began to blast through the speakers. I choked out a laugh, for this was wicked fun, a room and drinks at a karaoke bar. Jumilah’s was quite the hens’ party. I was surrounded by women.
